RBrul is employed in Sociolinguistics to quantitatively assess the influence of multiple factors on linguistic variables. It is inspired by the previous variable rule program VARBRUL, its successor GoldVarb as well as R-Varb. It fits mixed-effects models (with random effects) and explores linguistic variables through multivariate statistical analysis as well as multiple regression, using a maximum likelihood algorithm. A further goal is to interface with R’s graphical capabilities.
